Belfast ferry port accommodates more than two million passengers per year, and is Ireland’s largest operating ferry port. The port facilities are limited; however snacks are available in the departure lounge, as well as ATM services. Vending machines are also located in the passenger terminal, as well as the arrival areas and motorist terminal.
Belfast ferry port is one of Ireland’s largest freight ports. The port handles almost 95 per cent of Ireland’s imported petrol products as well as services many of Ireland’s dry imported goods. The Belfast port receives more than 6000 ships each year.
From Belfast, passengers can board the Stena HSS to arrive in Stranraer one hour, 45 minutes later. The Stena HSS ferry runs from Belfast to Stranraer seven times daily everyday of the week. The ferry services both passengers and vehicles.
An additional ferry line, Stena’s ferry Superferry, also provides service to Stranraer. The Superferry takes longer lasting three hours and fifteen minutes in duration, and offers five sailings each day of the week.
In Stranraer travellers will find several activities and sites of interest, including the Castle of St John built in 1511 on Loch Ryan. Additionally there are several points of interest just outside the ferry port, such as Portpatrick, which offers shops, pubs, and a good selection of restaurants.
The terminal in Stranraer is serviced by Stena Line and includes a reception area with a snack bar open 24 hours on weekdays. Additionally the terminal houses a small convenience store with a newspaper stand and a bakery.
Both terminals, Belfast and Stranraer, have available facilities, such as wheelchair access and easily accessible washrooms, for passengers with limited mobility. These services are also available aboard each of the ferries. Wheelchairs can also be provided for easier boarding and disembarking on the ferries. Staff assistance and wheelchairs should be requested prior to departure.
