Caen Port is not actually located in the town of Caen but lies about 15kms away in the small town of Ouistreham. This is a new port which provides services across the English Channel with Ferry operator Brittany Ferries offering a number of daily sailings to Portsmouth.

France has an excellent rail and road network and Caen is well linked with many major towns and cities. Caen Port is joined to Caen by a busy dual carriageway. The closest train and bus stations can both be found in Caen and SNCF operate frequent services from there. Taxis are available from outside the ferry terminal.

Being a relatively new and modern facility Caen Port has excellent facilities including a cafeteria with a good selection of hot and cold food and bar offering drinks. The ferry terminal has good facilities for disabled passengers, there is a bureau de change and telephones are available. A shuttle service transports foot passengers to and from the ships arrivals and departures area.

Brittany Ferries provide the choice of fast or conventional crossings between Caen and Portsmouth. There are up to four crossings every day; three standard ferry crossings that have a sailing time of 5 hours, 45 minutes for daytime journeys and about seven hours overnight; and one fast crossing lasting about 3 hours, 45 minutes. Fast ferry crossings only run from mid March to late October.

Brittany Ferries have a fleet of modern ships that are equipped with almost everything the modern traveller needs. The company strive to ensure that ferry passengers enjoy their trip in comfort. Standard facilities onboard include good choices of food and drinks in their restaurants, cafeterias and bars and a variety of shops with cosmetics, clothing and jewellery to tempt passengers.

Onboard entertainment for passengers includes gaming machines, children’s play areas and some ferries boast cinemas with up to date movies. Adjustable airplane style seating in some passenger lounges help to make the crossings comfortable and there are private cabins available.
