Historic Avignon is located in the south of France. It offers mediaeval walls and buildings, great museums, an old Papal palace, the fabled Avignon Bridge, eclectic shops and boutiques, and delicious Provencal gastronomy. From the UK, Eurostar to Avignon trains are the most comfortable and speediest way of getting here.
In the peak summer months Eurostar offers a weekly service on Saturdays from London St Pancras to Avignon. The service calls at Ashford Station in Kent before going through the Channel Tunnel. These modern trains can travel at 186mph which gives a total Eurostar to Avignon travel time of six hours.
Even with a longer than normal minimum 60 minute check-in requirement, the central situation of St Pancras and quick journey still offers a comparable time saving option to flying. Avignon Central Station is just outside the old city quarter’s walls and close to some of the smaller hotels and brasseries. A larger selection of Avignon’s accommodation options is two kilometres from the station and easily reached by taxi or public transport. Avignon Central is a regional interchange station and has onward services to the Cote d’Azur and Languedoc.
