It comes as no surprise that nearly one million passengers pass through the port of Ancona each year before they board ferries to European countries such as Croatia, Turkey and Greece. As well as regular ships, there are plenty of high-speed carriers travelling to Ancona and their addition is a result of an increase in the amount of passengers choosing to arrive here.
The town of Ancona is beautiful and if you have a few hours to spare before boarding your ferry, there are some beautiful sights available such as St Cyrica’s Cathedral then visit the National Archaeological Museum and its nearby Art Gallery.
A popular ferry route with services available from Ancona is to Igoumenitsa. You can board one of the luxury ferries heading to Patras and allow ANEK Lines to entertain you as it currently supplies reliable ferries regularly with the complete journey being finished in just under 30 hours.
ANEK Lines isn’t the only company which has ferries running to Igoumenitsa on a regular basis as it is also possible to travel with Minoan Lines. If you do decide to travel with ANEK however, the summer seasons sees a busy period when there are daily departures between Ancona, Patras and Igoumenitsa.
Igoumenitsa is located on the east side of Corfu in Epirus province and is very popular with tourists. There are many sights to enjoy as well as beautiful beaches and an extensive choice of bars, clubs and fine dining establishments.
All ferries dock at Igoumenitsa’s main port terminal where you will find a number of convenience stores, exchanges, hotels and banks located nearby to make sure you don’t go without. If you need any assistance, the Greek Tourism Organization Office is under 500 metres away and is easy to find.
