Folkestone is a port city nestled between the cities of Dover and Dungeness in the county of Kent. The town is a primary port connecting England’s south-east coast to neighbouring countries, with one of its major routes taking passengers to the charming town of Boulogne, France.
The Port of Folkestone is also easily accessible from almost anywhere in central to southern England, as it is within close proximity to the extensive arterial motorways meandering across the southern counties. The Folkestone Hoverspeed Ferry Terminal is situated on the outer fringes of the harbour.
The ferries that make the crossing between Folkestone and Boulogne are the Hoverspeed vessels and they sail several times each day, some days up to four times. The crossing generally takes about an hour, and due to the size of the ship, Hoverspeed ferries only carry passengers on this route.
The facilities onboard the ferries are quite modern and sophisticated. If assistance is required for special needs passengers, then prior notification when booking tickets is recommended. The vessels are equipped with a variety of specially designed services, such as ramp access and disabled restroom cubicles, for passengers requiring extra assistance.
Within close proximity to the Channel, the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer is a renowned connection city to the rest of Europe. The port itself is within a short walk to a wide-selection of exquisite restaurants, being only 200 metres from the town center. From the terminal, France’s west coast and beyond is easily accessible.
Terminal facilities at the port include a convenience store providing snacks and drinks, a modest tax-free shopping stall, and a news agency. Although the port terminal does not have an information desk, one is located across a nearby bridge beside the bus station. Public transportation can also be found just outside the terminal.
