The island of Formentera is located in the Balearic Island chain, in the south of the region. With no airport due to the island’s unfavourable natural topography, getting to Formentera is primarily done via ferry service. Boasting crystal clear waters lapping upon beautiful sun-drenched beaches, Formentera is one of the Mediterranean’s most beloved destinations.
The route from Formentera to Ibiza is currently operated by two ferry companies – Iscomar and Balearia Ferries. Iscomar operates the crossing 14 times on a weekly basis, and takes about 30 minutes to complete the journey. Although the crossing rather quick, there are a number of services on board the vessels for passenger satisfaction. These include spacious walkways, comfortable cabins, lounges equipped with TV and video, a snack bar, and sizeable seating.
Some of the Iscomar vessels include the Pitiusa Nova and the Nura Nova. Both these ships also include restaurants, a solarium, a children’s playground, games arcade and several facilities for traveling pets.
Balearia Ferries is the most predominant carrier upon this route, sailing over 80 times each week. The journey takes about 30 minutes, during which time passengers can sit back and enjoy the Mediterranean Sea views. Balearia operate both high-speed ferries and the more conventionally designed vessels between the islands.
The Nixe l is one such ferry offering high-velocity travel between Formentera and Ibiza. There are a number of facilities onboard the vessel to help passengers unwind and enjoy the voyage, such as several lounges, TV’s, comfortable seating, eateries, and a viewing platform.
Upon arrival in Ibiza, tourists will be captivated by the World Heritage Listed site of Dalt Vila, and the plethora of surrounding attractions, such as the city walls supporting Renaissance style architecture, beautiful cathedrals, magnificent accommodation and pulsating nightlife. Nevertheless, one of the major attractions pulling millions of UK, European and international travellers to Ibiza’s shores are the beautiful beaches themselves.
