The southern Italian port city of Genoa has been considered one of the most important European sea hubs for decades, due to its strategic location and convenient harbour. Both the city and port experienced significant damage during WWII, but have undergone refurbishments and upgrades to become one of the busiest ferry ports in Europe. Genoa is also home to one of Italy’s largest shipbuilding industry.
The port of Genoa consists of two terminals for ferries. With similar designs to airports, the terminals provide fast check-in, and many other excellent facilities. Restaurants, cafés, shops, ATM’s and information desks are all available for passenger’s convenience.
The crossing from Genoa to Palermo port is provided by Grandi Navi Veloci, which was founded in 1992 as part of the Grimaldi Group. A more expedient fleet now exists and operates the Genoa to Palermo route. Offering the comfort and first-class ambiance of a cruise liner, the Grandi Navi Veloci ferries provide faster crossings for passengers, cars, and cargo freight on their vessels.
The vessels offer spacious suites and cabins for passengers, and an a la carte restaurant and snack bar are provided to satisfy appetites en route. A piano bar, cinema, swimming pool, games room, casino and beauty centre are among the services also available on board Grandi Navi Veloci ships.
Inside the Palermo terminal, there are several facilities for incoming and outgoing passengers. A convenience and a cafeteria is provided, and for a small fee, internet services are available in the Western Union offices on the third floor.
