Boasting one of the largest ports in Scandinavia, and the busiest port in Finland, Helsinki Port welcomes and farewells over nine million passengers annually. Currently, ferry connections are operated between Finland, Sweden and Estonia from Helsinki Port, and occur on a regular, daily basis. Several carriers handle crossings between different port destinations.
The ferry port is nestled upon South Harbour, just a few kilometres from Helsinki’s city centre. Due to its frequently high visitor list, facilities at the Helsinki Port Terminal are generally modern and designed for passenger convenience. Such amenities include retail outlets, a café, a lounge, and travel information desks.
From Helsinki to Tallinn, Estonia, there are several ferries that operate the daytime route. The carriers include Silja Line, Viking Line, Tallink Line, and Nordic Jet Line. Departure from Helsinki occurs during the day, from morning to late afternoon, and journey times tend to differ according to conventional and fast ferry services and route conditions.
Finnjet operates connections between Helsinki and Tallinn. The route takes an overnight journey, docking at Tallinn early the following morning. Passengers needn’t worry about travelling during the night, as Finnjet ferries provide superb comfort and entertainment onboard. Finnjet also handles a connection between Helsinki and Travemunde, in northern Germany, which takes up 27 hours to complete.
Two ferries service an overnight route from Helsinki to Stockholm, taking about 17 hours in duration. Silja Line’s MS Serenade and MS Symphony handle the crossing, which leaves Helsinki at 17:00 and arrives into Stockholm just after 21:30 the next day.
Helsinki is one of northern Europe’s most significant cities, and provides expedient links by buses to various major cities in and around Finland, such as St Petersburg, Russia; and Stockholm, Sweden. There is also a primary rail network linking Helsinki to domestic and international destinations. The nearest station to the port is Rautatientori.
