Heraklion is the main port on the Greek island of Crete. It is located in the centre of Crete’s northern coast and is one of Greece’s Cyclades Islands, in the Aegean Sea. Ferry services from Heraklion to Mykanos are provided by Hellenic Seaways.
Heraklion Port is on the town’s promenade and is within walking distance of most tourists’ requirements, including a bus station, travel agents, accommodation, restaurants and bars. Long and short term parking is available at the port. Heraklion’s choices of accommodation range from basic backpacker hostels to elegant hotels.
Hellenic Seaways offers a five hour rapid crossing from Heraklion to Mykanos on its Flying Cat 4 during the summer season. Hellenic Seaways, a leading ferry operator offering services between the Greek Mediterranean islands, has a fleet of more than 30 vessels. Other ferry companies offer less frequent services from Heraklion to Mykanos.
Mykanos, the ferry’s destination, is a charming Greek island which is famed for its narrow streets containing charming whitewashed cottages adorned with blue doors and shutters. It was once a popular destination for the rich and famous, but nowadays its vibrant nightlife has given it the reputation of a non-stop party destination. In July and August it is especially crowded with holidaymakers.
Mykanos’ ferry port is about one kilometre from the town centre. The port itself has a café serving snacks and drinks, as well as passenger waiting areas. Regular shuttle buses offer services from the port to the town. Taxis usually meet incoming passenger ferries.
Heraklion, the departure point for the Heraklion to Mykanos ferry, can be easily reached as it is in a strategic position on Crete’s road network. It is adjacent to the main road that runs along the north coast of Crete and is also the start point for the Heraklion Timbaki Highway which connects Heraklion to Crete’s southern coast.
