Ferries to Holland

Holland is a large, very flat country which lies right in the heart of Europe. Most of this country lies below sea level and as a consequence, the land is very green and lush. Cycling is very popular here, given the lack of hills but Holland is regarded as a rather progressive country for many reasons and this, combined with its beautiful architecture and unique culture ensure that it is a prime destination for travellers all over the world. The biggest port in Holland is also the biggest port in the world, and that is Rotterdam. Much of the throughput at this port is cargo but it also hosts a very popular ferry route linking Holland to the UK. The ferries depart from here to Hull on a daily bases and they are provided by P&O North Sea Ferries. The journey takes 11 hours but is scheduled to depart at night so passengers may be able to sleep through most of it.

More commonly, journeys from Holland to the UK originate from the Hook of Holland with the journey time being much more reasonable at under four hours. Those who use this route will arrive at Harwich, which is in the south of England. Stenaline offers daily sailings on this route. Their fleet of large ferries sport good onboard facilities including restaurants and entertainment.

If you wish to travel directly to Newcastle in the North of England, there is a ferry which departs from Ijmuiden overnight, on a daily basis. Ijmuiden is a small town and its located close to Amsterdam, Holland’s most swinging city. This particular crossing is operated by DFDS Ferries who are based in Holland. The journey time is 16 hours.

Many people who visit Holland will end up staying in Amsterdam at least for a time. This world famous city offers some unique sights, such as the numerous coffee shops, notable for legitimately offering cannabis to customers. On a more cultural note, the many museums and art galleries reflect the nation’s famous historic artists such as Van Gogh and Rembrandt.
