The Balearic Islands are a very popular tourist destination around the mainland of Spain. Whilst Ibiza is famous for its vibrant night life and ‘club scene’, Majorca offers a much more relaxed environment. Those who want the best of both worlds can hop between these two islands, with a minimum of fuss, by using the regular ferry services which operate all year round, between Ibiza and Palma.
Of course, Ibiza itself offers far more than night life. In fact the port of Ibiza is located right at the Dalt Vila, a world heritage site as defined by the UNESCO authority in 1999. There’s an impressive cathedral and the imposing Renaissance city walls. The island is known for its dense woodlands and beaches which stretch for many miles. These can be quite busy in some places but if you are prepared to explore beyond the beaten track you may find quite beauty spots which rival any coast line that the world has to offer.
You can catch a ferry from Ibiza to Palma operated by Balearia Ferries, a major transport provider for these islands. Their vessel, the Federico Garcia Lorca, is pretty fast by ferry standards and is also spacious and comfortable. It’s a fairly short journey between the two islands and as such, there isn’t a great deal to do on board, other than relax and watch the waves. However, you may be able to purchase some snacks on board the ferry.
The largest Balearic island is Majorca and this islands most famous city is Palma. Many people arriving by ferry will want to continue on to quieter parts of the island, but Palma has much to offer in its own right. The Palma ferry terminal is about four kilometres from the city centre and features two passenger terminals to deal with the large volume of traffic.
