Located along the coast of Holland, Ijmuiden is a small town offering an alternative sea ferry connection between Western Europe and the UK. Due to Ijmuiden’s picturesque landscape, laid-back ambiance, proximity to Amsterdam and expedient links to continental Europe, the Port of Ijmuiden remains relatively busy throughout the year.

DFDS Seaways operates crossings from Ijmuiden to Newcastle, twice daily. Two vessels make this connection, departing from Ijmuiden in the evening, arriving into Newcastle the following morning. Journeys take about 15 hours, and occur in each direction when both ships are in service.

Passengers are ferried upon the MS King of Scandinavia, and the MS Princess of Norway. Both vessels have an extremely pleasing range of activities and services to keep passengers entertained and comfortable during the journey. Some of these include inside or outside cabins, shopping, children’s club, bars, a disco and much more. Office equipment and meeting room facilities are also available onboard the vessels.

The Port of Ijmuiden terminal has somewhat limited facilities. If passengers are feeling hungry, a convenience store is on hand, so too are a range of vending machines with hot and cold snacks or beverages to select from. A gift shop and news agency are also located inside the terminal. A tourist information centre is found not a short distance from the port terminal, in the town of Ijmuiden.

Passengers who require special assistance, or have limited mobility are catered for within the terminal, as wheelchair access in the main building, car park and restrooms are provided. Patrons should notify DFDS of any assistance required at the time of booking.

Ijmuiden is renowned as the alternative route into Holland, with expedient access to several transport networks. From the terminal, passengers can take a bus to nearby Haarlem, and connect to the extensive rail or road links to various major cities, such as Amsterdam, the Hague, and Rotterdam.
