For many people, a good way to visit Jersey is by taking the ferry. There are several ports in England which offer direct ferry routes across to the channel islands and one of the closest is Weymouth. This allows for a relatively short crossing time of three hours, 30 minutes. With offerings such as Jersey Zoo and pleasant beaches, Jersey can be a great place for a getaway particularly if you’re looking for a family friendly destination.

You can catch the Condor ferry from Weymouth to the capital of Jersey, St Helier. Condor are a big ferry company with a good reputation for safety and reliability. You will find that ferries depart once daily for this route. Wheelchair access is readily available in all areas in both St Helier and Weymouth ports.

You may either book in advance to guarantee yourself a seat, or simply turn up at the time of departure and hope for the best. Condor offer different classes of seating, from standard far to the slightly more expensive reclining class. The most expensive option is club class which offers improved seating and more space. You will find several bars onboard. Food is also available to buy, from hot meals to basic snacks. In addition there is a children’s play area aboard the ferries.

Weymouth ferry port is fairly basic compared with somewhere like Dover. However, there is a small snack bar and a newsagents on site, although this is less than you tend to find on the ferry. Unfortunately there are no banking facilities at the Weymouth terminal and the nearest bank will involve a drive into Weymouth city centre. None the less, this Council run ferry terminal does allow ferries to depart and arrive efficiently. You will find plenty of car parking available even for long stay customers.
