Lerwick, on the Shetland Islands, has regular ferries running to Torshavn, on the Faroe Islands, during the summer months. This route is operated by Smyril Lines, who also have ferry services to Norway and focus mainly on their ferry services to Iceland.
Lerwick to Torshavn ferries depart regularly in the summer, and are overnight passages. All passengers have a cabin for the duration of the ferry trip. You can choose which type of cabin you would like to stay in from a broad selection. There are couchette cabins, underneath the car park deck, with six to nine berths per cabin. Cabins can be booked for couples and families, and suites are also available. All cabins have a choice of view, ranging from sea view to inside view.
The fare you pay includes transportation, a breakfast and the cabin hire. No other meals are included, and WiFi is not free, but is extremely cheap to use (less than one euro per hour). The larger, more luxurious the cabin, the higher the price, and it is the same with the cabin view; if it is a good view, for example, sea view, it will be a much higher price than an inside view. There is also a charge for bringing vehicles on board, though Smyril Lines offer packages for families and people with vehicles.
There are plenty of onboard facilities, which provide everything you may need or want. There are shops selling a broad range of goods, from the practical to the novel, including a duty-free shop, facilities for the disabled, children’s entertainment, a cinema, night club, bingo hall and casino. There are also bars on board, with sea views, restaurants with a large selection of food, and small cafés serving hot and cold beverages and snacks.
