Livorno Port, overlooking the heart of its scenic old city is the first stop for the hundreds of thousands of ferry passengers who dock into Tuscany’s second largest city each year. Livorno is just a short distance away from Florence, Pisa, Corsica, Sardinia, and several other popular surrounding destinations.
The oldest section of Livorno port is named after the powerful Medici family who governed the region for over 300 years and transformed the port area into one of the Mediterranean’s most important. Passengers wishing to travel from Livorno Port to Corsica by ferry may choose between Corsica Ferries or Moby Lines, which sail to the Corsican town of Bastia, and Corsica Marittima, which sails to both Bastia and another Corsican town of Porto Vecchio. Ferry crossings between Bastia and Livorno Port usually last about four hours.
Moby Lines also operates a ferry service between Livorno Port and Olbia, Sardinia, which takes about nine and a half hours. Linea dei Golfo sails from Livorno Port to both Olbia and Cagliari, Sardinia, while Sardinia Ferries offers regular trips to Golfo Aranci, Sardinia.
Grandi Navi Veloci offers three weekly ferry crossings to Sicily’s largest city, Palermo, while Adriatica di Navigazione sails to another Sicilian destination, Catania, on a 27 hour journey. Toremar Ferries provides shorter ferry trips from Livorno Port to the nearby Tuscan islands of Capri and Gorgona.
Banks, bars, restaurants, a nursery, a conference centre, a first aid station, and comfortable waiting rooms are just some of the amenities Livorno Port’s passenger terminal provides to ferry passengers. Cruise ships also frequently dock at Livorno Port so passengers can tour Pisa, just 13kms away, and Florence, 80kms away. Livorno Port provides frequent shuttle buses to the train station and the city’s downtown.
