Patras Port is located in the heart of Greece’s third largest city and serves as the gateway to Italy and the rest of Western Europe, thanks to several ferry connections with many Italian cities. Frequent ferry crossings to the nearby Ionian Islands and other Greek cities also sail out of Patras Port.
The Superfast Ferries company offers ferry crossings from Patras Port to the Italian cities of Bari and Ancona. Both ferries stop at the Greek city of Igoumenitsa in between, while the crossing between Patras Port and Bari stops at both Igoumenitsa and another Greek city, Corfu. The Patras Port to Ancona ferry crossing lasts about 21 hours, and the crossing between Bari and Patras Port takes between 17 hours and 15 and a half hours.
Anek Lines also provides ferry crossings between Patras Port, Igoumenitsa, and Ancona, as well as a crossing between Patras Port and Venice with stops at Corfu and Igoumenitsa along the way.
Hellenic Mediterranean Lines offers regular ferry crossings between Patras Port and Brindisi, Italy. These 15 hour crossings sail daily during the summer, and less often throughout the rest of the year. Maritime Way also operates daily summer ferry crossings between Brindisi and Patras Port, stopping at Igoumenitsa and sailing less frequently during the off season.
Minoan Lines offers direct ferry crossings to passengers wishing to sail directly to Patras Port to Ancona or Igoumenitsa with no stops in between, as well as a crossing which stops at both Igoumenitsa and Ancona.
Patras Port is 210kms northwest of Athens, site of the nearest international airport to Patras Port. Several tour operators, travel agents, and toilets are stationed at Patras Port, which is also just a short walk away from a wide variety of hotels, restaurants, and shops. Other recommended Patras attractions for ferry passengers include the lighthouse serving as the city’s symbol, traditional Turkish hot baths, and the Achaia Clauss vinery.
