Paxos Port is located on one of the beautiful and idyllic Ionian Islands, 14kms south of Corfu. The port is in the heart of the picturesque town of Gaios, the capital of the island of Paxos, and is the first sight for most arriving passengers because ferry service is the only means of transportation to the island.
Most ferries entering Paxos Port arrive from the nearby island of Corfu and the mainland Greek city of Igoumenitsa. Many ferries originating from the Italian cities of Bari, Venice, Ancona, and Brindisi also end their journey at Paxos Port after first stopping at Igoumenitsa and Corfu.
Direct ferry services between Paxos Port and Corfu are especially frequent during the summer, with fewer crossings throughout the remainder of the year. Passengers may choose to make the journey aboard a high speed hydrofoil which accepts foot passengers only or a more leisurely and conventional car ferry.
It normally takes about one hour to travel between Corfu and Paxos Port by hydrofoil, and 3 hours, 15 minutes to make the trip aboard a car ferry. Some hydrofoil voyages stop at Igoumenitsa along the way, adding an extra 30 minutes to the trip.
An Italian shipping company, SNAV, also recently established a direct hydrofoil crossing between Paxos Port and Brindisi, Italy, a journey which usually lasts about eight hours. Passengers may also travel to Paxos aboard private sea taxis.
The island of Paxos is so small, ferry passengers can walk from one end to the other in a single day. Paxos Port is surrounded by several restaurants, bars, and sidewalk cafés ideal for relaxing and people watching. Visitors may also enjoy swimming, snorkeling or fishing in the clear waters surrounding Paxos Port and the rest of the island.
