Riga’s ferry port is located in the Daugava River’s delta in the centre of Latvia. As an international seaport, Riga is a hub for commercial and financial activity along with tourism and travel. For those with last minute paperwork and money issues to sort out, the port is a short five-minute walk to many embassies, banks and hotels. There are even restaurants around for a last minute snack.
The main terminal at Riga’s ferry port offers a variety of facilities and services. Apart from boutiques and shopping venues, there are also a few food and beverage venues to choose from. Latvia Tours works together with the passenger port to provide assistance with sightseeing trips and any other tourist related inquiries.
There are currently three shipping lines with regular passenger routes from the ferry port in Riga to surrounding seaports. There are also a number of cargo routes with limited space for passengers. The three shipping lines alternate routes to and from the seaports in Stockholm, Kiel and Lubbock.
Transparaden Ferries provides two to three weekly routes to Lubbock from Riga’s port. While the Riga to Helsinki route currently has no regular line, travellers may jump on any of the cruise ships travelling around the region during the summer months. The route between Riga and Kiel is serviced by The Mermaid II which has a variety of sailings each week. Because it is a cargo ship, passenger seating is limited.
For those travelling to Stockholm from Riga’s ferry port, the Baltic Kirstina has up to four weekly routes. Within the passenger terminal, passengers may take advantaged of the duty-free shopping, gambling at the casinos and restaurants. The ferries along this route can accommodate up to 512 passengers and depart from Riga on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for even weeks and Saturday for odd weeks.
