Santander in the north of Spain houses one of Europe’s busiest ferry terminals due to its location at the tip of southern Europe. A stopping point for cruise ships and ferries alike, the port is located in the city centre and has excellent facilities and caters for travellers and passengers alike. There are also many sights to enjoy here, with historical architecture and a selection of museums.
Brittany Ferries have two routes serving the UK at Portsmouth and Plymouth. The ferry to Portsmouth takes around 20 hours whilst to Plymouth it is 24 hours with two sailings each week to these destinations. Portsmouth is served on a Monday at 15:00 whilst ships generally arrive in Plymouth at 21:00 every Wednesday.
Ferries heading back leave from Portsmouth every Tuesday at 11:00 and leave from Plymouth every Sunday at 12:00. Check in times are around 60 minutes prior to departure sailing.
As you would expect with the popularity of the Port of Santander, facilities at the passenger terminal are excellent and spacious with an array of restaurants, bars and shopping, banks, supermarkets and a tourist information desk. The onboard ferry facilities include air conditioned cabins, entertainment for children and adults including shows and cinemas, restaurants and bars.
The Port of Santander has an excellent road network nearby with local motorways from Burgos, Coruña and Valladolid easily accessed. The rail network in Spain can connect Santander from almost any city in the country whilst the bus network can also connect from almost anywhere in Spain and France to Santander.
The port has both long and short term parking for ferry passengers and facilities for disabled passengers including wheelchair access, disabled toilets and designated disabled passenger parking. Please check with the ferry operator prior to arriving.
