The port of Stranraer lies to the south west of Scotland and is a link from the ferry from Stranraer port to Belfast. The port is conveniently located being around 90 minutes from Glasgow and less than two hours from the border with England and is a convenient gateway to Ireland.
Stena Lines operate the three hour ferry crossing with around five sailings daily at convenient times during the early morning starting at 04:00 through to evening at around 23:00. The return journey has a first sailing time of 03:00. Passengers are advised to check in around 45 minutes prior to ferry departure.
The ferry port facilities are fairly limited but do have a waiting lounge, snack bar and refreshment are. The onboard facilities include a choice of places to eat including a snack bar and restaurant, refreshment area and bar, children’s entertainment and comfortable lounges. The ferry operator also have free WiFi access for passengers.
The port is fairly well connected with a road and rail network serving Glasgow and the west coast of the UK. The M74 onto the A75 motorway just past Carlisle serves Stranraer with the ferry port being well signposted and directed. Coming from the north the A77 route from Ayr takes you direct to the ferry port. The west coast rail link from Glasgow serves the area several times a day and Prestwick International Airport less than two hours away.
Stranraer port has a small car park adjacent to the main terminal whilst long and short parking is available close by and all parking at the port is free. Passengers with special needs are catered for both at the ferry terminal and on board the ferry with wheelchair access and assistance and it is advisable to contact the port prior to arrival.
