Cheap Ferries from Stromness to Scrabster

Stromness is the second-largest town in Orkney, Scotland. Located in the south-western area of Mainland Orkney, Stromness is the first port of call for ferries arriving from Scrabster, on the Scottish mainland.

Northlink Ferries operates the long-established ferry route between these two ports and the company provides the service three times every weekday (at: 04:15, 09:00 and 17:00). Saturdays and Sundays have two sailings every day (departing at: 09:00 and 17:00). This ferry route offers passengers spectacular views of the Old Man of Hoy, and St John’s Head, which can only be had on this route.

Northlink Ferries operates modern vessels, featuring spacious lounge areas, en-suite cabins, bars and children’s play areas. The ferries are built to conform to the highest standards of safety and comfort, and can also accommodate travellers with disabilities. Northlink Ferries does advise informing the company of any special assistance required at the time of booking.

The northern end of Stromness’ city centre is where its main harbour and quays can be found. A newly built road provides direct access along the shore, thus reducing the traffic congestion in the north end of the town. Passengers will find a branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland along with ATMs on Victoria Street, near the new ferry terminal. There is also a Tourist Information Centre to assist travellers.

The Stromness to Scrabster route has seen an increase in traffic in the recent years and currently services around 100,000 passengers and 45,000 vehicles annually. The increased ferry traffic is a result of the ongoing development at Scrabster harbour, which has paved the way for the introduction of larger and more capable vessels. The port itself provides basic facilities.

An important Scottish fishing port, the Scrabster Harbour is located in the north of Scotland. Passengers arriving here by ferry or on larger cruise vessels find easy access to Thurso, the second largest town in the Highlands.
